{"id":1466,"date":"2020-01-23T15:59:06","date_gmt":"2020-01-23T15:59:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/slcrail.com\/?p=1466"},"modified":"2020-01-23T15:59:06","modified_gmt":"2020-01-23T15:59:06","slug":"slc-annual-treecycling-fundraiser-for-birmingham-st-marys-hospice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/slcrail.com\/slc-annual-treecycling-fundraiser-for-birmingham-st-marys-hospice\/","title":{"rendered":"SLC joins forces with businesses in Birmingham for annual\u00a0fundraiser\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">Volunteers from SLC were among <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">a number of<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">\u00a0West Midlands organisations giving up their time at the start of this month to raise money for Birmingham St Mary\u2019s Hospice by collecting and recycling Christmas trees.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">The Hospice has been running its \u2018<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">Treecycling<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">\u2019 scheme for nine years, providing residents a greener and easier way to get rid of their Christmas tree in return for a donation to the charity. It continues to grow in popularity and this year raised over \u00a385,000.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">SLC has been involved in this event for the past four years and assisted by donating vans and people<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">power from SLC Rail and SLC Property.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">Susan Fisher, Senior Property and Rail Specialist at SLC Property said: \u201c<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">Treecycling<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">\u00a0is a fantastic thing to do to help some of the people who need it most in our community, and after the excess of Christmas it reminds us that not all families are having such a great time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">David Munt, Senior Project Manager at SLC Rail said: \u201cThis was the first year I got involved in this event and I\u2019m glad I did! It was incredibly rewarding volunteering for this event and knowing you are helping to make such a difference to people&#8217;s lives. It was also a great teamwork exercise and I\u2019d urge other businesses to get involved.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghamhospice.org.uk\/\">Birmingham St Mary\u2019s Hospice<\/a> cares for local people living with life-limiting illness across Birmingham and Sandwell. The Hospice provides care and support to 500 people every day, in people\u2019s homes, in the community and at the Hospice itself.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">Treecycling<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">\u00a0is part of the Hospice\u2019s \u2018Care at Christmas\u2019 campaign, which is a festive appeal that aims to boost support for the charity leading up to and over the Christmas period.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">Charlotte Dowling, Community and Corporate Fundraising Manager at Birmingham St Mary\u2019s Hospice, said: \u201cWe were delighted to welcome back volunteers from SLC Rail and SLC Property, helping us to recycle over 4,500 Christmas trees this January. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-GB\">&#8220;As a charity, we\u2019re <\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">really proud<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">\u00a0to have a number of big-hearted businesses backing our\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">Treecycling<\/span><span lang=\"en-GB\">\u00a0campaign, as it means that every penny raised goes directly towards the Hospice.
