City of Wolverhampton Council\u2019s Interchange project, which has been coordinated by SLC, has been shortlisted for three awards at the Insider’s West Midlands Property Awards 2020.<\/p>\n
The project is up for Construction Project of the Year, Regeneration Project of the Year and for the Sustainability award and the winners will be announced at the gala dinner on Thursday 4 March, 2021, at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole hotel.<\/p>\n
The demolition and construction of Wolverhampton\u2019s new railway station building, being carried out by contractors Galliford Try, underpins the city\u2019s \u00a3150 million Interchange scheme, which is delivering improvements to bus, tram and train connectivity.<\/p>\n
Once the railway station is completed in early 2021, final works will begin to connect the station to a new Metro extension, creating a fully integrated transport hub with the neighbouring bus station and a first-class gateway to the city centre.<\/p>\n
The development works have been cleverly designed in two phases to ensure they do not impact on train services from Wolverhampton.<\/p>\n
The latest success follows on the back of the Wolverhampton Interchange project last month being shortlisted as one of only six schemes for the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) West Midlands Awards for Planning Excellence 2020 prize, with the winner to be announced next month.<\/p>\n
City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Economy, Councillor Stephen Simkins, said: \u201cThe railway station is a beacon of the multi billion pound regeneration that is taking place across our city. It is an extraordinary project and I am delighted it is getting the recognition it deserves.<\/p>\n

\u201cProjects like the railway station, and other capital schemes like the i9 office development and Civic Halls are critical to our recovery from Covid-19 \u2013 creating jobs, driving further investment and giving our businesses confidence to get back on their feet and grow.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe completed Interchange will connect train, tram and bus in one place and will ultimately provide a gateway to our city that we can all enjoy using – and be proud of.\u201d<\/p>\n
