SLC Rail, the rail station specialist, is delighted that Leicester City Council has been successful with its bid\u00a0for \u00a317.6 million from the Government\u2019s Levelling Up Fund to\u00a0transform Leicester railway station.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0successful bid which SLC Rail supported with earlier this year, will go towards a \u00a322million scheme to remodel the station\u2019s entrance and create a more attractive new gateway to the city centre.<\/p>\n
The station\u00a0would be effectively restored to its Victorian glory by forming a new entrance onto Station Street, directly facing the city centre, and\u00a0restoring the booking hall to its original size to create more space for train passengers.<\/p>\n
The area immediately outside the new entrance will be remodelled with a ramp and steps leading to a large new glazed entrance to the main concourse. The building\u2019s original Station Street fa\u00e7ade will also be restored.<\/p>\n
The covered entrance hall areas on London Road \u2013 known as a port coch\u00e8re \u2013 would be transformed into an attractive new plaza for retail, food and drinks, with the existing taxi ranks reallocated nearby on Station Street.<\/p>\n
