Sam Uren will give a presentation today hosted by Women in Rail on International Women\u2019s Day (8 March) to talk about the projects she has worked on and to share learnings from her career.<\/p>\n
Sam has worked in the rail industry for over 25 years and is the Engineering Director at SLC Rail and member of the board.<\/p>\n
\u201cRail was something that always interested me because of the huge impact you can have on a community. I know that when I create a station, I\u2019m not just creating a building but something that can improve people\u2019s lives for years to come,\u201d explained Sam.<\/p>\n
When starting out she was one of three women out of a group of 35 studying Civil Engineering at Aston University, after which she went to work for Mott MacDonald.\u00a0 She has worked on many exciting rail projects including Worcestershire Parkway, which won Overall Project of the Year at the ICE West Midlands Awards in 2020.<\/p>\n
\u201cDays like International Women\u2019s Day help to raise awareness of women\u2019s impact on the world.\u00a0 I\u2019m looking forward to sharing key learnings I\u2019ve had along the way and to explain the benefits of diversity for businesses when solving complex problems \u2013 particularly important when building railway infrastructure!\u201d added Sam.<\/p>\n
The event has been organised by WSP and other speakers include: Rajinder Pryor MBE, Senior Account Manager at Network Rail Telecoms; Anne Shaw, Executive Director, Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) and Rachel Cook, Operations Director, WSP.<\/p>\n
