Si\u00e2n Pitchford, Head of Engineering at SLC Rail, has been awarded Fellowship\u00a0of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the world’s oldest professional engineering association, recognising her exceptional knowledge, ability, and experience in the field.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Si\u00e2n’s passion for civil engineering began as a teenager when she attended a Women in Engineering event and discovered the breadth of engineering careers available. Intrigued by civil engineering in particular, she studied the subject at Oxford Brookes University. Then, during a year-long placement with Balfour Beatty Major Projects, Si\u00e2n knew it was the perfect fit for her, a career choice she has pursued for 27 years and counting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She has worked for SLC for nine years and was promoted last year to Head of Engineering, where she has led the engineering team\u2019s continued growth.\u202f She also works on a variety of projects and aspects including CDM and has been the Principal Designer Representative on a number of SLC\u2019s schemes. Si\u00e2n was also involved in developing the Requirements Management process for SLC, which is one of the many unique processes that SLC has for ensuring the successful delivery of projects.\u202f \u202f\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Si\u00e2n said: \u201cThe ICE has always been something I have valued in my career, and I\u2019m honoured to be awarded this\u00a0Fellowship.\u00a0 I\u2019m committed to supporting our team of engineers with making the most of SLC\u2019s training scheme and the ICE\u2019s training and professional development opportunities.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs a\u00a0Fellow, I\u2019m also looking forward to continuing to promote careers in Civil Engineering even more widely and helping to inspire and equip the next generation of civil engineers to tackle the complex challenges facing our world today.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
